1st Place in Teamwork! Four perfect scores!

Out of 40 FLL teams at the local Qualifier, our team placed FIRST PLACE in Presentation!
At the state Champions Competition, we placed FIRST PLACE in Teamwork!
And we even earned a PERFECT SCORE in FOUR out of the nine categories that all teams were judged on: Research Presentation, Teamwork, Gracious Professionalism, and Inspiration. And we're not done! We're presenting information at the 2011 Young Women's Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in Princeton NJ.
AND we're committed to continuing our website--and the Challenge and prizes to go with it!--for at least one year (through winter 2012). We're also writing to Mrs. Obama--she needs to know about Health4Life.info as a great way to help children fight obesity.

Recap of our "Bob Eve" meeting

Had an awesome "Bob Eve" meeting !

Finished our shrinky dink gold medals for the Judges...
Hannah finalized our list of resources the team used for all our research--from professional advice, to books, to magazines, to websites and medical reports.

And we wrote to Michelle Obama. We put a link to her site (letsmove.gov) on our website, and we think she should link Healthy4Life to hers! And we're hoping she'll complete our Challenge! We practiced our Research skit a few more times and reviewed what things each of us were going to make sure we explain to the Judges during their QandA time.
After ordering (and devouring) pizza for dinner, we put some final tweaks on our programs.

And ran the programs a few more times. Ya know, just worked on pushing a pace maker into a heart, dropping in a bionic eye, and placing a bone bridge so a leg can kick again. Just a typical programming evening. :-) Now we're getting some shut eye so we can have a BLAST spending a whole day at the Championship Competition tomorrow--runninng our programs and sharing our research all day.

We'll let ya all know how it goes!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord and not for men.

Bob Eve!

It's been a really exciting day. I called it "Bob Eve," our final team meeting before the Championship State Tournament tomorrow, at the Bob Carpenter Center at University of DE. Our team started at 3 and just ended now, at 8:30. We had pizza and we've had tons of fun today. We are really excited for tomorrow!!

Team Cheer, at the Qualifier

A few relaxing moments

Yesterday was our qualifier. It was so much fun! But it was loud and tiring. I was glad there were a few relaxing parts. I think the most relaxing part of the day was when we went into a quiet hall and said our team verse and cheer. (Our cheer goes: 4 simple steps, one at a time! Switch! Sleep! Sweat! Share! Healthy4life! Yeh!) Another fun part of the day was when we played card as a team. We played what we call "peanut butter & jelly." It was fun. But my favorite part was when we got to run along the line of judges and get a high-five from all of them at the end of the day, when we received our trophy for Best Presentation. (We had a funny game show skit that explained all of our research to the judges.)When we get to the end of the line, the first person to make it to the end got handed the trophy by Mr. Karl. (The organizer of the qualifier we were at) The one who ran down the line first was Joshi.

We moved on!!!!!

Today was such a long day, but it was defiantly worth it!! We did awesome in the teamwork, technical, and research room. Our highest score on the table was 100, we didn't think we would get that many points on the table, so we were soo excited! Our presentation went really well, and the judges liked it a ton. The teamwork room's challenge was different, but we did o.k. In the technical room, none of our programs did what they were supposed to do, but the judges still really enjoyed looking at our robot. None of the other teams there (that I saw), had treads so that was what made our robot different. We were going around and handing out papers with our website on it, and one of the teams signed up right when we gave it to them on their phone! We won the first place trophy for research presentation, I think the judges thought the skit we made up was really unique.  Out of the 40ish teams that were there, nine moved on to the Bob Carpenter Center, at UD. Our highest score today was 100, and that was only one week of programming, but now we have two weeks to program before our next competition, I can't wait to see how much we can get done!
