Robot problems

We've finally started actually programming our robot yesterday. We had tons of problems with our brick not responding to our commands. (And then found out all we had to do was add a reset block every now and then in our program.) Jo and I have been going to town all day yesterday and today and are really excited to see the programs progressing! Now we just have to be ready for our competition on Saturday. --Logan

  1. The team had put tons of hours into programming in November then felt like they hit a brick wall last month when suddenly nothing seemed to work. Programs that had been running smoothly were now running inconsistently, doing different things every time. We thought we had a "bad" motor, so we ordered 2 new ones, but still the same problem. We tried to set up meetings with a programming mentor, but it never worked out over the busy holiday season. So we borrowed a robot "brick" from a very gracious team to see if we needed to invest in a new brick. But still the same problems. Finally, a wise team Dad suggests we call Lego NXT technical support. They explained that our two motors were getting out of sinc after lots of move blocks and we needed to add reset blocks every so often in our programs to give the motors a "fresh start" every once in a while. Voila! So now, with 5 days till competition, we're finally back in the swing of programming. Looking forward to tomorrow's team meeting so the whole team can get in on the programming!
